That time I accidentally became a christian historical romance author...

I recently had the pleasure of hosting my parents over the labor day weekend, during which we ate tons of great food, completed a puzzle, and most importantly, talked about the symptoms of ADHD. Why, you ask? Well, because my sweet mom got sucked into working on Legos with my daughter, and when my daughter inevitably got bored and walked away, my mom remained planted on the floor, meticulously organizing lego pieces, determined to finish the project she'd started, coming back to it during every free moment of the weekend. Teasingly, I said "hey look! You've found yourself a hyper fixation."

Perplexed, my mom said, "a what?"

And that's how we dove into a fun conversation about the symptoms of ADHD (something I haven't been tested for, but fully believe I have). One of the super fun things about ADHD are hyper fixations. It's this thing that happens when something that interests you completely takes over your brain, making it the only thing you think about. For me, my hyper fixations often cause me to do silly things, like staying up into the early hours of the morning working on a project...like, say, setting up Looking For Penny Larke on Amazon Vella.

And that's just what happened on the fateful night when I accidentally became an author for a christian historical romance publisher.

After living and breathing Penny Larke for the last couple of weeks, editing and planning, I was finally ready to publish! Not knowing how to start, I simply googled "publish on Amazon Vella" (because it's always a good idea to start new business ventures via google searches at 11 o'clock at night). And, lucky me, that brought me right to a nice little page with a happy little button that said "start a story."

And it was that simple!

Hours later, I stumbled to bed, exhausted from scheduling out the weekly releases all the way through February. I did it! And I...hadn't even been asked how I wanted to be paid...or even what email to use for the vella account...? Hhmmm...That haunting thought lulled me to sleep and I awoke in the morning with the terrible feeling that I'd messed something up.

And messed up, I had.

See, I had no idea that Amazon Vella was run through Amazon KDP, the platform I use to publish my books, as well as the publishers I work for. So it didn't even occur to me to check which amazon account I was logged into when I started publishing. And that was the crucial mistake that made me, sort of, technically, an author for the wonderful and fabulous Wild Heart Books for one weekend. (Lucky for me, my boss is amazing and so understanding! We had a good laugh about it.)

After many phone calls with customer service, I was able to get it all sorted out. And I'm proud to announce that the first two chapters of Looking for Penny Larke are now available on Amazon Vella (under my own account- thank goodness).

Looking for Penny Larke is a sweet episodic rom-com about an author with writers block, her grumpy boss, and a pseudonym way out of control! It will be publishing chapters weekly on Amazon Vella, after which it will be available on Kindle Unlimited. I have LOVED writing this series, it got a lot of love from my fabulous Beta readers, and I'm excited to share it with all of you!

Oh! And i'm using a fun new pen name for the series! So be on the lookout for Rebel Benson!
